GTA: Rhodes was named the best city break destination of the year

The Greek Travel Awards event held at Six Park Place in London, in the presence of the Greek Ambassador, Mr. Yannis Tsaousis, highlighted the top Greek destinations after a vote by 2,000 travellers from the UK. The Greek tourists were selected as the top 10 Greek tourist destinations in the UK by a panel of 2,000 visitors from across the UK.
Rhodes emerged as the best city break destination of the year, surpassing, for the first time, the historically favourite in this holiday category of the British, Athens and Thessaloniki. This is a title that Rhodes has won for the first time ever.
According to officials of the Municipality of Rhodes and PROTOUR, this first place is due both to the upgrading of the city's hotels and to the special tourist products launched by the municipality. Winning this title may even help to stimulate traffic in the city centre and extend the tourist season.

The director of the Rhodes Tourism Promotion Organisation, Mr. Dionysis Tsiligikiris said that the title of City Break destination is a pleasant surprise and vindicates the efforts of the municipality and PROTOUR to boost city tourism.
"The truth is that no one ever imagined that Rhodes could win the title of the best city break destination.
This is a pleasant surprise. Obviously this distinction did not come by chance. The efforts of the municipality of Rhodes and PROTOUR, which for three years now have been promoting city tourism through special programmes such as Rhodes 5-0 aimed at travellers in the over-50 age group, have paid off.
Our targeted efforts to open up new markets, mainly India and South Korea but also the USA, have also helped. Indeed, Rhodes has proven that it can be a city break destination.
