Accessible and disabled-friendly routes have been constructed in the Medieval Town of Rhodes, while the project will continue in various other parts of the town.

The first part of the project, entitled: "Creation of a network for disabled people in the Medieval Town of Rhodes", which concerned Hippodamus Street.

The project, which started in November 2022, was completed on time and before the start of the summer season in early March 2023.
The contract of the project entitled: "Creation of a network for the disabled in the Medieval City of Rhodes", was signed by the Mayor of Rhodes.

The project included the creation of a Lardos-type slab corridor in the middle of the road, the preservation of the traditional gravel pavement on the sides of the road and the construction of three (3) marble wells (double) on the model of those of the historic Knights' Road. With the completion of the road, it will accommodate people with disabilities, strollers with babies, cyclists, travelers with luggage, etc.
The project, which will continue in November 2023, concerns - according to the approved study of the Directorate of Medieval Town and Monuments - the creation and restoration of a disabled traffic network with mild point interventions at the entrance gates of the Medieval Town, in squares such as Symi, Argyrokastro, Alexander the Great and Museum, as well as in streets such as Lachitos, Apollonia, Pythagoras, etc.

The project includes the dismantling of existing pavements with sorting, storage and partial reuse of pebbles, excavation by mechanical means or by hand at points where there is a risk of damage for the shaping/fixing of slopes in relation to the existing pavements, construction of new substrates for the marble, slabs and pebbles pavements, repositioning of adjacent pavements on the new marble slab pavement, etc.
