For a heat wave intense, lasting 10 days, with temperatures of 40 degrees and above in the mainland, spoke today the meteorologist Panagiotis Giannopoulos, with the weather changing for the worse next week, since the mercury will climb quite a lot, creating a suffocatingly hot climate.

Specifically, Giannopoulos told ERT's weather bulletin that from July 12 to 13 the first heatwave will sweep the country for days.

At the moment they cannot predict its duration, but it looks like it will last, with current data, until at least July 22, he added

FORECAST FOR MONDAY 10-07-2023

Generally clear weather is forecast in the country, with a few occasional clouds in the northeastern mainland at noon and in the afternoon.

Winds will blow from the north in the west 3 to 5, in the east 4 to 6 and in the Aegean Sea locally 7 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly.

FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 11-07-2023

Generally clear weather.

Winds will blow from the north in the west 3 to 4, in the east 4 to 6 and in the Aegean Sea locally 7 Beaufort with gradual weakening.

The temperature will rise slightly.

A EUROPEAN BLAZING SUMMER

Not only Greece, but Europe in general, is heading for a very hot time next week. The "heat dome" over Europe is expected to bring the strongest heatwave of the summer of 2023 so far. Parts of Iberia, in fact, will heat up to over 40 °C.

The warmest areas of the country today
According to meteo.gr the areas with the highest maximum temperatures today were Argolida (38.7°C), Fokida (36.8°C), Heraklion (36.7°C), Pella (36.6°C) and Attica (36.5°C).

As can be seen from the additional information provided in the figure, the temperature exceeded 30oC at 335 of the 477 currently active stations in the network (~70%) and 35oC at 50 stations (~10%).
